Jain Farmhouse

Delhi

Client: Harish Jain
Architect: Arvind D’Souza
Area: 2.50 Acres
Status: Completed in 2009

An unpredictable dense mix of big plants, palms, crazy pathways runningloosely, random rubble masonry walls and unique sculptures distinguishes this rustic tropical oasis from other farmhouses in the densely populated area of Chattarpur of New Delhi. A major portion of the built surfaces and courtyard walls is wrapped with earth mounds. The front garden consists of a grand cobbled drive-in roundabout island emanating a feeling of subtle grandeur and luxury while the rear garden contains the private lawn and a lap pool connecting the health club axially centered with the building on opposite side. Although privacy was a priority, all the toilets have their individual garden courtyards. The intense tropical flavor of the farmhouse is highlighted by the special artifacts brought from Thailand including a victory drum carved out of a hundred year old coconut tree trunk.
